matilija poppies and easter eggs

Whimsical Matilija poppies resembling fried eggs, and vibrantly colored Easter gems (dyed with distilled vinegar) were a couple of things that speckled my weekend with cheer. I want to be outside taking advantage of every spring offering these days. Front yard picnics and convertible drives up the coast become necessities. The ocean is liquid lapis lazuli, complete with shimmers of gold. Rave's unwaning enthusiasm for sprinting out the back door to find the sunniest seat in the grass always brings a smile. We lost two trees in our Lilliputian backyard recently, rendering our hammock and favorite nap spot obsolete. However the sunshine is bountiful there now, and the star jasmine I planted along the rickety fence is suddenly stretching to its full potential. I'm pondering colorful additions to the flower beds and a trip to the nursery is imminent. The windows and doors are open and it's that soothing azure breeze, even more than the sunshine, that beckons me today.

What are your favorite springtime delights?

Spring has returned. The Earth is like a child that knows poems.

Love spring! Not too hot, not too cold. I can't wait to take my journal back out to the patio while sipping on coffee. Can't wait for all my flowers to start to bloom again, such an array of color. I just love spring. The beautiful warmer days w/ crispness to the night winds. Just beautiful and magical. Laying outside watching the stars and all the animals come around again. The longer days and so on. Just can't wait. Spring is always a welcomed site here in Canada.

"The ocean is liquid lapis lazuli, complete with shimmers of gold." I want to soak and float in these words until my fingers and toes are all wrinkly. My favorite Spring delight is the abundance of life bursting forth from plants, animals and insects. You can feel the world humming with life. Enjoy your window-open days and soaking in that new light in your backyard.

I love open windows and humming birds in the spring. I also love ice tea and scribbling outside.

open windows and birds chirping
the smell of wet pavement
and drying earth
hearing the kids play outside long after supper...
the opening of the dairy bars...
hard chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone and a good book on my knee...

blossoms everywhere.
tulips filling the day with color.
watching the pup flop on the grass and wriggle.
the warmth of sun on my face.
the anticipation of summer fruit - this in between time when apples & pears are out of season but nothing is in season yet is hard on my "buy local + seasonal" ideal.

I love the last line: "The windows and doors are open and it's that soothing azure breeze, even more than the sunshine, that beckons me today."

I love the blossoms on the trees.
I love when the grass turns green again.
I love the thought of soon being able to eat on the patio.
I love pansies in fresh dirt.

lapis lazuli, gold, star jasmine ~ this is why I want to go to the Met! the egyptian wing....

my springtime joys have been watching the garden thrive, the cat trip through the rained on grass and catch my eye, open shoes, hair drying quickly and tousled again, the windows open, and hope and delight back in my heart, instead of just fortitude and endurance. spring is bubbling. :)
