a weekend getaway
I am nearly packed and ready to catch a morning plane to San Francisco. I'll be meeting four lifelong friends there to catch up, reminisce, explore and laugh until our faces and stomaches hurt. There may also be a trip to Napa Valley wedged in there somewhere. How I love times like these!
I'm learning to pack lightly and I think I'll make this trip with just a tote/purse and a backpack. Seems easy enough for a long weekend, but it required unprecedented planning on my part just the same.
Here are a few things I like to have with me for comfort when I travel:
A small notebook and two pens
A scented travel candle with matches
Blueberry Vanilla & Cashew Kind bars (an easy gluten free snack)
A kindle (easier than taking a stack of books)
A current New Yorker magazine, this time I'm taking Anthology magazine too
My camera, laptop, iPhone and earbuds
A few bags of tea, currently peppermint, in a small handmade daisy print drawstring pouch (a gift I cherish)
Inner Peace energy mist by Lotus Wei
A few stamps to send postcards (regrettably, I often stall at good intentions here)
A soft wool throw for the plane
A small tube of L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
Water
Tic tacs
A good bar of dark chocolate
And a sleep mask to cover my eyes
What are your travel comforts?
Wishing you a weekend filled with giddy laughter...

funny you should ask this as i'm packing to go to vancouver canada on saturday. i'm going to use a purse/day bag that will double as my camera bag and a backpack for the laptop/work i need to do while i'm gone. and because i'm gone for 2 weeks, these will be my carry-on's, (actual suitcase will be checked.)
i'm a big wuss and don't like flying, but will be glad once i get and i'm glad to have my ipod loaded to cut the anxiety. radiohead take me away. :)
have a great time - can't wait to see photos and hear about your travels.
have a lovely time ! Your list sounds a lot like mine - perhaps a bit more exotic as my travel candle is usually from somewhere mundane like walmart - and my snacks more like goldfish crackers ! ( not really - I usually resort to buying stuff last minute in the airport ) I wish I were laughing with you !
journal and pen
at least 3 books
green smoothie for the car ride to the airport
teabags
drawstring bags for collecting
postcards and stamps
scarf
my Klean Kanteen large water bottle
GPS if I will be renting a car
with pertinent addresses written in the back of my journal
earplugs
Burts bees chapstick
yoga pants for after a long day of travel
ibuprofen
I also tend to write, at some point on my trip, a list of things I brought that I didn't need, and things I brought that were essential ~ sometimes I even check that list before my next trip!
2-3 books. (And there is a Powells at the airport so unless it is a very early flight, I usually have at least one new book by the time I board.)
a very soft purple scarf.
a Sigg for water.
a photo of the pup to use as a bookmark.
Have a wonderful trip!
great list. I am curious about that anthology magazine. it looks great.
For me, I like taking my kindle, my phone(with a good music mix synced), a small notebook, an extra comfy cardigan and comfy yoga pants. I really need to get better about packing tea and snacks. I am always so thirsty in the airport.
I love to travel, but hate to pack. I always over pack and end up not using half of what I take. It is funny you are writing this, I am working on packing. Heading home to NC this weekend for a week. I always travel w/ snacks, vega protein powder, ipod, laptop and book or books.
I hope you have a great time and look forward to hearing about your time.

kristen: thinking of you in vancouver (love radiohead).
martha: any snacks are good snacks :)
brooke: a green smoothie on the way to the airport is a great idea.
elizabeth: where do you fill your sigg at the airport since it can't be filled prior to security? are there still water fountains there? i really don't like getting a plastic bottle.
keishua: i heard rumors the third issue of anthology is in circulation ~ i've loved the first two.
suzanne: i too have been a notorious over packer ~ i'm still trying to get it right. have a lovely trip!
oooh great post! I always aspire to pack lightly - but guess I'm no minimalist! Yeah....would have to throw in a cushy cashmere wrap AND watercolors and waterbrush!
